Medak: Distraught after finding his name missing from the Indiramma housing beneficiaries list, a man attempted suicide by consuming pesticide at Katriyal village in Ramayampet mandal late on Tuesday night.

The victim, Yerukala Ashok (32), had earlier found his name in the initial beneficiaries list and had begun constructing a house after demolishing his hut. Ashok was shocked when the officials of the inspection team and Indiramma committee members told him that his name was not in the final list.

Ashok tried to convince the officials to include his name and questioned how it had disappeared from the list. He explained that he had demolished his hut and begun construction in accordance with the scheme’s norms, borrowing money for it.

When officials refused to reinstate his name on the list of beneficiaries, Ashok took an extreme step by consuming pesticide around midnight. He was immediately taken to the government hospital in Ramayampet for treatment.

His family members demanded that the government take action against the officials and Indiramma committee members responsible for omitting his name from the list. They also urged the authorities to immediately sanction a house for him.
