Hyderabad: A man from the city was cheated of Rs 4.9 lakh by fraudsters on a matrimony site.

The 45-year-old victim had uploaded his profile on the site seeking a suitable alliance and was contacted by an unidentified woman who claimed to be a doctor and a divorcee, settled in abroad.

“Through phone calls and messages, she gained his confidence through fake stories about herself and told him she would marry him once she returns to India,” police said.

Further, on various pretexts, she made him transfer the money into her bank account. He transferred the money but later grew suspicious when there was no response from her to his calls.

He approached the Hyderabad Cybercrime police, who have booked a case and are investigating.
