Hanamkonda: Non-sanctioning of Indiramma houses to genuine beneficiaries is forcing the people from poorer sections to stage protests in novel ways. One such youth in Hanamkonda took such protests to real heights, virtually.

The youth, identified as Pasha of Ram Nagar in Hanamkonda, surprised locals by climbing nearly a forty-foot tall billboard located closer to the district police headquarters on Friday. He was reportedly frustrated after the authorities denied him a Indiramma house.

The young man threatened to jump off the billboard if the authorities did not consider his application for the sanctioning of a housing unit under the Indiramma Illu Housing Scheme 2025. He accused some local leaders of betraying him after promising to sanction a housing unit under the scheme.

Pasha’s drama created commotion in the city centre as locals gathered around the billboard and tried to convince him to get down from it and not hurt himself.

The youth demanded that he would get down only if the local MLA Naini Rajender Reddy gave an assurance to him. He climbed down safely only after the local police and family members persuaded him that the legislator would help him in resolving the matter.

Earlier, a 45-year-old man died by suicide allegedly upset over not being selected as a beneficiary for the government’s Indiramma Housing Scheme in Chintapatla village of Yacharam on Friday.

Doddi Ashok, who is survived by wife and three daughters, had applied for the Indiramma Housing Scheme which is being implemented by the State government. Since he did not have a house of his own, his name also appeared in the first list. However, in the recent list released by the officials, his name was missing.
