Rajanna-Sircilla: A 55-year-old man, Chakali Rajaiah, died on Thursday night after reportedly suffering a heart attack while being chased by the police during a raid in Venkatapur village of Yellareddypet mandal.
According to villagers, police conducted a raid on a gambling point on the outskirts of the village. Those playing cards fled on seeing the police. Rajaiah, while attempting to escape, allegedly suffered a heart attack and collapsed.
His body was later found about two kilometres away from the spot. Family members, however, expressed doubts over the circumstances of his death, pointing out that his gold chain and money were missing.
They alleged that it was unclear whether Rajaiah died of a heart attack or was killed due to a dispute during the gambling session. They have demanded that the Superintendent of Police conduct a comprehensive inquiry.
It is learnt that police took five persons into custody during the raid.
