Kothagudem: An incident of a person allegedly faking his death, in collusion with two others and claiming LIC insurance money worth Rs 10 lakh came to light lately in the district.
The person in question was Bhukya Sriramulu of Bhaskar Nagar at Sarapaka in Burgampad mandal in the district. It was learnt that the LIC agent played a key role in this illegal act. The LIC agent, Sriramulu and another person obtained a fake death certificate of Sriramulu from Kukkunur in Andhra Pradesh.
The death certificate and the details of the nominee were submitted to the local LIC office six months ago claiming that Sriramulu was dead. The insurance money of Rs 10 lakh was reportedly withdrawn two months ago. Of this, Rs 5.50 lakh was taken by the LIC agent, Rs 3.50 lakh by the family of Sriramulu and another person took the remaining Rs 1 lakh.
The matter came to light as the above three refused to pay money to a person who had information about their misdeed. LIC officials, who came to know about the incident, took up investigation. On Thursday, they visited Sriramulu’s house and to their surprise found him alive.
The insurance money was recovered from the people who swindled it. LIC officials said that they were conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
LIC officials were yet to lodge a police complaint about the incident.
