Hyderabad: A resident of the old city approached the Hussainialam police alleging Charminar legislator Mumtaz Ahmed Khan of assaulting him over a petty issue on Saturday night.
Ghulam Ghouse Jeelani, who stays at Panch Mohalla in Charminar, claimed he was sitting near his house when the legislator who was passing by, came and hit him for reportedly not greeting him.
In a statement made to various news channels, Jeelani alleged the legislator along with his guards slapped him. “He told me I did not say ‘Salaam’ to him and his nephew said I will be shot dead,” Jeelani alleged.
The incident was captured on closed circuit cameras and soon went viral on social media platforms on Sunday.
Hussaini Alam Inspector, Naresh Kumar said they had received a complaint from Jeelani and added, “We will verify the content and check the footage of the nearby closed circuit camera. A case will be registered after the preliminary enquiry.”
