Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Cybercrime police on Saturday arrested a cook who fraudulently stole the ATM card of his employer and withdrew cash of Rs 2.7 lakh over a period of one year.
T Laxminarayana (27), a resident of Srinivasapuram colony in Vanasthalipuram, according to the police, learnt about the complainant’s sister sending money from USA for expenditure and noticed that she leaves the debit card on her table along with the PIN written on its cover.
“He took the debit card several times from the house and after withdrawing money from ATM centres near the Government Area Hospital in Vanasthalipuram, kept the card back in the same place,” said an official.
Since January 2020, he withdrew nearly Rs 2.7 lakh from her card but the complainant did not suspected him. However, the theft came to light when her sister came to India in December and verified the transactions.
“When they started doubting him, the suspect stopped working at her house and went to Bengaluru where he spent the stolen money lavishly,” the official added. Based on a complaint, Laxminarayana was traced to Bengaluru and arrested.
