Man held for extorting motorists in Adilabad

Adilabad: Police on Monday arrested a man on charges of extorting money from motorists by posing as a hitchhiker.
Adilabad I Town Inspector B Sunil said the accused, Chakati Kiran of Wagapur village in Adilabad Rural mandal, was apprehended for targeting motorists with the help of a woman. Kiran confessed to extorting Rs 30,000 from a motorist by threatening to file a complaint against him for offering a lift to a woman.
According to police, Kiran and the woman would request rides from motorists, after which he would accuse them of inappropriate conduct. In one case, the motorist, fearing repercussions after sharing his contact number with the woman, was forced to mortgage gold and hand over the amount to Kiran.
