Adilabad: A man was arrested for allegedly smuggling and storing banned gutka products in a warehouse on the premises of a government school, run in a private building, at Chandat (T) village in Adilabad Rural mandal on Friday. He was produced before pressmen on Saturday.
Prohibited gutka products worth Rs 11.17 lakh were recovered from the warehouse. Briefing reporters on the arrests Superintendent of Police D Uday Kumar Reddy said that the accused person was Sajid Ullah Khan of Adilabad town. Sajid was detained when Adilabad Rural police, sleuths of Special Branch and Central Crime Station conducted raids on the warehouse, following a tip-off.
During interrogation, Sajid confessed to committing the crime to make fast bucks in a quick time. He admitted that he was importing the products from Bidar of Karnataka and was storing them in the warehouse located in the cellar of the building. He revealed that he was secretly selling it to merchants belonging to several parts of the district for quite a long time.
