Hanamkonda: The death of a man and his daughter at Kadipikonda Rajiv Gruhakalpa Housing Complex in Kazipet mandal in the district on Wednesday is suspected to be a pre-planned murder allegedly perpetrated by the man’s son-in-law.
Bashaboina Rajsekhar (54) and his eldest daughter Rajasri (24) were found charred to death in their house in block number-10 of the complex. The locals panicked on noticing a fire breaking out in the house at around 3 am and called firefighters and police.
On receiving the information, Madikonda Inspector of Police Pulyala Kishan and SI Raj Kumar reached the spot and inspected the house, while the clues team collected fingerprints and other evidence. The bodies were shifted to MGM Hospital for postmortem.
A relative of the deceased, Sarala, told the media that Rajsekhar, who lost his wife, works as an auto-rickshaw driver and married off Rajasri to their distant relative Pokkula Praveen of Chintalapalli village in Sangem mandal in 2023.
The couple had two children, a two-year-old son Jayansh and a six-month-old daughter Divisha. They had come to Kadipikonda to conduct an ‘Annaprasana’ (feeding first solid food to a child) ceremony for the daughter at a local temple on Tuesday.
Praveen, who works at a private company in Hyderabad, was supposed to return to Hyderabad with his wife and children on Wednesday. However, for reasons yet unknown, he allegedly murdered his father-in-law and wife before setting them ablaze, Sarala alleged.
It is suspected that Praveen first beat his wife and her father to death with a hammer while they were fast asleep. He then moved the two children sleeping next to their mother to another room and poured petrol, which he had allegedly procured beforehand, over the duo and set them on fire to make it appear as a fire accident.
Afterwards, feigning ignorance, he called his relatives and informed them that his wife and father-in-law were engulfed in flames. Carrying his two children, he also woke up the neighbours, claiming that a fire had broken out in the house.
The deceased woman’s younger sister, Divya, demanded severe punishment for Praveen and stated that she would raise the two children. The incident sent shockwaves across Hanamkonda as the police launched an investigation into the deaths.
