Warangal: An undertrial prisoner, who was taken into custody by the police on July 31 and lodged in the Mahabubabad sub-jail, died while undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital here on Monday.
The deceased, Venkanna, aged around 40 and hailing from Mahabubabad, was an accused in a 2017 murder case. He was taken into custody after a court issued an arrest warrant as he had failed to appear for hearings following his release on bail.
He was produced before the court on August 1 and subsequently shifted to the Mahabubabad sub-jail. Jail officials brought him to MGM Hospital after he fell ill while in custody. The man’s relatives said the family was not informed either when he was taken into custody or after he fell ill.
The family members were informed by the police only after his death. Police officials said Venkanna’s body would be handed over to his family members after the post-mortem examination.
