Mahabubabad: A man allegedly killed his brother’s mother-in-law by giving her an electric shock during wee hours on Tuesday at Mangali thanda under Seethampet Gram Panchayat of Garla mandal in the district.
According to police, the 28-year-old accused, Rajesh, first gave an electric shock to his brother’s father-in-law Daravath Ramdas using electric wires in the house. Assuming that he was dead, Rajesh later gave an electric shock to Ramdas’ wife Daravath Kousalya, who died on the spot.
The accused also attacked his wife Lakshmi and his brother Ramesh’s wife Anjali in an attempt to murder them as they tried to stop him. Rajesh fled the scene as neighbours rushed in after hearing the victims screaming in pain.
Ramesh’s first wife reportedly died of illness a few months ago. Three days ago, Ramesh’s in-laws arranged his marriage with their distant relative Anjali, following which Ramesh’s parents reportedly gifted 10 guntas of land to her.
Rajesh, who was against the marriage and the transfer of land to his sister-in-law Anjali, decided to kill all the family members. When Ramesh’s in-laws planned to return home after the marriage, Rajesh asked them to stay for two more days to execute his plan.
On Monday night, Rajesh made Ramdas and others consume alcohol. After midnight, when everyone had fallen asleep, he committed the crime.
Garla CI Ravinder and SI Sai Kumar visited the village, shifted Kousalya’s body to District Government Hospital in Mahabubabad for autopsy.
The CI said that two teams had been formed to nab the accused, who was booked for murder and attempted murder. Seethampet Sarpanch Banoth Eerya stated that the accused was addicted to alcohol and committed the crime under its influence.
