Jagtial: Upset by his son-in-law’s refusal to lead a normal life with his daughter, a person attacked the daughter’s mother-in-law with a knife in Jagtial on Monday.

The woman, who suffered serious injuries in the attack, died on the way to hospital in Karimnagar.

According to police, Gatla Kiran, a resident of Beetbazar in Jagtial town, married Gangabhavani of the same locality one and half years ago. Kiran was working in a private bank in Jagtial town.

The couple was staying separately due to family disputes for the past some time. Despite a number of panchayats held before elders, the dispute was not settled.

On Monday afternoon, Venna Mahesh, father of Gangabhavani and a Gulf returnee, went to his son-in-law’s home to continue talks. As Kiran was not available at home, Mahesh entered into an argument with Yamuna, mother of Kiran.

As the argument turned serious, Mahesh, who was carrying a knife in his two wheeler, pulled it out from the vehicle and attacked Yamuna indiscriminately. She collapsed on the spot.

Shockingly, Mahesh stood in front of the victim while the latter lay in a pool of blood till the police arrived at the spot. Local people had also not dared to come forward to shift the lady to hospital.

Knowing about the incident, DSP Prakash and CI Kishore rushed to the spot and shifted the victim to Jagtial hospital. As her condition turned serious, doctors referred her to Karimnagar hospital. However, she breathed her last on her way to Karimangar.

On the other hand, police took the accused Mahesh into custody and began investigation by registering the case.
