Siddipet: A man allegedly plotted to kill his mother-in-law by staging a road accident to claim insurance money. The incident occurred on July 7 at Pedda Mansanpally in Thoguta mandal.
The accused, Talla Venkatesh (32), reportedly took out multiple accident insurance policies in the name of his mother-in-law, Thatikonda Ramavva (50), before enlisting his friend to run her over with a car.
Initially treated as an accident case, police later named Venkatesh as an accused based on CCTV footage and other evidence. Commissioner of Police B Anuradha disclosed the details at a press meet in Siddipet on Saturday.
Venkatesh had secured a Rs 15 lakh policy by paying Rs 755 at a post office and another Rs 40 lakh policy in SBI by paying Rs 2,000 annually. He also registered 28 guntas of land in her name to qualify for Rythu Bheema benefits.
He reportedly owed Rs 1.3 lakh to his friend Karunakar (29), and in return for help, promised him a share in the insurance money. Karunakar hired a self-drive Mahindra Thar in Siddipet and hit Ramavva with the vehicle while receiving location updates from Venkatesh. Both were arrested and sent to judicial remand.
