Man takes ailing mother to MLA’s house after alleged treatment denial at Mancherial GGH

A daily-wage labourer took his ailing mother in a wheelchair to Mancherial MLA K Premsagar Rao’s residence after alleging that GGH staff refused her a bed and treatment. The hospital’s Resident Medical Officer later intervened and convinced him to admit her.

Mancherial: A daily-wage labourer expressed his dissent over the alleged refusal of treatment to his ailing mother at the Government General Hospital by taking her to the residence of the local legislator in a wheelchair here on Tuesday night.

Bhukya Raj Kumar from Pulimadugu, along with his mother Laxmi, who was diagnosed with a kidney-related ailment, visited the GGH after her condition deteriorated at 9 pm. He was upset after staffers allegedly refused to allocate a bed and treat his mother despite repeated pleas.

Raj Kumar decided to knock on the doors of MLA K Premsagar Rao, hoping the legislator would intervene and help him get treatment for Laxmi. He, along with his wife, took his mother to Premsagar Rao’s residence by pushing the wheelchair for over 1 km, shocking passersby and motorists at midnight.

The hapless man claimed he was forced to take his mother to the legislator’s house after the staffers denied her a bed and treatment. He alleged that the staffers tried to assault him for questioning their apathy. He also accused the staffers of negligence in providing treatment to her twice in the past.

On receiving information, GGH Resident Medical Officer Dr Sridhar rushed to the MLA’s residence and convinced Raj Kumar to admit his mother to the hospital. The incident has become a talking point among residents, who criticized the officials for allegedly refusing treatment to poor patients.
