Hyderabad: In a freak incident, a tippler who was caught during a drunken driving check by the traffic police threatened a sub-inspector with a snake at Chandrayangutta on Saturday night. It was later found that the snake was dead.
Syed Irfan, an auto rickshaw driver and a resident of Pahadishareef, reportedly consumed cheap liquor on Saturday night and started for his house in his auto. When he reached MBNR crossroads at Chandrayangutta, the traffic police stopped Irfan and, on checking, found that he was driving in an inebriated condition. The vehicle was detained, and a case for drunk driving was booked against him.
Infuriated over the police detaining his auto rickshaw, Irfan went to the vehicle and brought a dead snake. He held it in his hand and allegedly threatened to hurl it at the traffic sub-inspector.
When the traffic police informed the local law and order police, Irfan ran away from the place. However, the Chandrayangutta police, on a complaint from the traffic police, traced down Irfan at his house in Pahadishareef and brought him to the police station.
Irfan later apologized to the traffic police and promised not to repeat such a thing again. The Chandrayangutta police registered a case against him. He will have to appear before the court on Monday.
