Man who opened fire in Adilabad attempts suicide in jail

Adilabad: An undertrial prisoner attempted suicide by supposedly banging his head against a wall in a bathroom of Adilabad district jail here on Wednesday.
District Jail Superintendent Shobhan Roopani said Farooq Ahmed, who was arrested for misusing his licensed weapon at Thatiguda Colony recently, was found in an unconscious condition in the bathroom. A probe has been ordered into various aspects including how he sustained the injuries and whether he attempted to kill himself, Shobhan stated.
Farooq was initially shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS)-Adilabad and then rushed to a hospital in Hyderabad. His medical condition is said to be out of danger. Dr Venkat Reddy of RIMS said Farooq fell conscious as there may be blood clots in the brain.
It is learned that Farooq was reportedly depressed after he was denied bail by a court even after three months. He was lodged in the jail in December last. He was counseled after returning from the court as is the usual practice. “We advised him to approach another court for bail,” informed the superintendent.
