Mancherial: Congress activist drowns while taking dip in Pranahita river on Diwali
A 26-year-old Congress activist from Royyalapalli village drowned in the Pranahita river while taking a holy dip during Diwali celebrations. Police have launched a search operation, but the body is yet to be recovered.
Mancherial: Taking a holy dip in Pranahita river on the occasion of Diwali festival proved fatal to a young Congress activist as he accidentally drowned in it at Royyalapalli village in Kotapalli mandal on Monday. The body is yet to be recovered.
Police said that Dagama Srishailam (26) from the village met a watery grave while taking a dip in the river at a deepest place in connection with the festival. He ventured to enter the river even as he was not familiar with swimming. He was accompanied by some villagers at the time of the incident, who alerted his family members and police.
On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and launched a search to retrieve the body from the river. As the level of water at the spot of the incident was high, the body was not traced till 5 pm. A case was registered based on a complaint received from family members of the victim.
