Mancherial: The petition seeking police custody of BRS district president Balka Suman was rejected bythe Principal PCOurt JnionCivil Judge A Nirmala here on Friday.

The police custody was sought in the investigationof a case registered following an alleged attack on the convoy of Labor minister Dr G Vivek and Peddapalli MP G Vamshikrishna in Kyathanpalli recently.

The court expressed its opinion against ordering police custody again as he was sent to judicial remand after completion of inquiry. It cited that a police officer who registered a case against Suman was appointed as investigation officer. Suman’s lawyer Lalitha and her colleagues pointed out that a standard operation procedure suggested  by the Supreme Court was not followed while arresting Suman.

Earlier, the police sought permission to take Suman into custody for interrogating his role in the attack. Suman and eight other BRS leaders were booked on the charges of attacking the convoy of the minister, unlawful assembly, rioting, injuring a constable and obstructing duties of a Sub-Inspector when they were on a bandobast duty in Kyathanpalli on February 17.

Suman and six leaders were already arrested and were lodged in a jail in Adilabad town.
