Mancherial family suicide pact: Fourth member also succumbs in hospital

The fourth person was 26-year-old Samudrala Shiva Prasad. His father, Mondaiah (60), and Mondaiah's wife, Sridevi (50), passed away early Wednesday morning while receiving treatment, while their daughter, Chaitanya (30), died on Tuesday night.

Mancherial: The last remaining member of a four-member family that attempted suicide in Kasipet village of Tandur on Tuesday, died on Wednesday afternoon. The three others had passed away on Tuesday night and in the early hours of Wednesday.

The fourth person was Samudrala Shiva Prasad, 26. Shiva’s father Mondaiah (60) and Mondaiah’s wife Sridevi (50) died while undergoing treatment early on Wednesday morning, while their daughter Chaitanya (30) died on Tuesday night.

Losses in the share market following investments, reportedly by Shiva, is suspected to have triggered Tuesday’s suicide attempt by the family.

Tandur Sub-Inspector Kiran Kumar said preliminary enquiries by the police indicated that the four tried to kill themselves by consuming a weedicide as they were depressed over a financial crisis. Family sources are learned to have told the police that the crisis was apparently caused by losses in share market investments by Shiva. The exact reason is yet to be ascertained.
