Mancherial: A 47-year-old mango farmer allegedly died by suicide in Chennur town of Mancherial district after suffering heavy crop loss due to unseasonal weather conditions.
According to Chennur Sub-Inspector Subbarao, Ellaboyina Mallesh consumed pesticide at his residence in Kothagudem area on Saturday night. He was shifted to a private hospital in Karimnagar, where he died while undergoing treatment on Sunday evening.
Police said Mallesh had cultivated mango orchards on five acres of land, reportedly raising loans from local moneylenders. He was expecting a good yield this season but became distressed after mango blossoms fell, allegedly due to a recent rise in temperatures in the district.
A case has been registered based on a complaint from family members, and an investigation is underway.
