Mancherial: Farmers staged a protest by staging sit-in in front of a power sub-station in Bellampalli on Saturday demanding uninterrupted supply of power.
Farmers from Sandravelli, Gurijala, Chakepalli, Budhakurd, Rallapet, Perkapalli, Dugnepalli, Kannala and some other villages gathered and sat down at the substation at Shivalayam. They regretted that they were unable to irrigate standing paddy and other crops due to unscheduled power outages. They lamented that the crops were on the verge of getting withered causing losses in farming.
The farmers said that they were forced to rely on generators to irrigate the crops by paying out huge rents. They recalled that they raised the crops by availing loans from private moneylenders at exorbitant rates of interest. They urged the officials to ensure quality power supply to agriculture needs. They withdrew the protest when the authorities assured to address their challenge.
