Mancherial: A function hall that was once sealed by the Mancherial Municipal Corporation for violating building norms is now set to be inaugurated, allegedly with the support of local MLA K Premsagar Rao.
The multi-storied hall, constructed on the banks of Rallavagu in Green City Colony, had earlier been seized by officials for being built under permission granted for a residential structure. The civic body had pasted a notice and sealed the premises under Section 181 of the Telangana Municipal Act, 2019.
Subsequently, the owners approached the Telangana High Court, which ordered the removal of the seal. They claimed that the court directed them to seek fresh approval for a commercial structure, following which they paid property tax for six months and leased the hall to others.
Municipal officials, however, maintained that the hall continued to be used for commercial purposes and said they were preparing to move the High Court again, armed with supporting evidence. They refused to disclose details of the court’s earlier directions and reportedly expressed helplessness in preventing the inauguration, citing the legislator’s influence.
Meanwhile, the tenants have made elaborate arrangements to inaugurate the hall on October 12. A flex banner featuring photographs of MLA Premsagar Rao and his wife Surekha was displayed prominently at the entrance, sparking public criticism.
The owners had already faced backlash for building the hall within the Rallavagu buffer zone. Locals remarked that laws seemed to apply only to the poor, not to the influential. It remains to be seen whether the MLA and his wife will attend the inauguration amid the growing controversy.
