Mancherial: Unable to bear alleged mental and physical harassment by his in-laws, a man ended his life by consuming pesticide at Dandepalli mandal centre on Saturday night. The incident came to light on Sunday.

Dandepalli Sub-Inspector T Srikanth said the deceased was Chennaveni Venkatesh, a daily wage earner of Dandepalli mandal headquarters and the younger son of Mallaiah.

Venkatesh resorted to take the extreme step after he was thrashed by his in-laws and relatives of his wife on Friday. He left a voice message to his parents and died by suicide, holding his in-laws and wife responsible for his death. He was immediately shifted to a hospital in Karimnagar where he died while undergoing treatment.

The daily labourer married Padma, a native of Dandepalli village, after falling in love with each other in 2014. “His uncle Anaveni Mallesh, brothers-in-law Anil, Akhil, their relatives Nanaveni Buchhavva and his wife used to quarrel with him. They were told by the elders to mend their ways. They beat my son up on Friday night. Consequently, my son felt insulted and ended his life,” Mallaiah charged.

Based on a petition received from Mallaiah, a case was registered against the four under the Section 309 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations were taken up.
