Mancherial: Internal bickering among leaders of the Congress party came to the fore when former Congress MLC K Premsagar Rao submitted a representation to Collector Bharati Hollikeri requesting her to procure paddy produce and to immediately initiate payments to farmers here on Thursday.
Supporters of Premsagar Rao blocked a convoy of vehicles in which senior leaders V Hanumantha Rao, Ramulu Naik and ex Minister G Vinod were arriving at the Collectorate to take part in the ‘Praja Jana Chaitanya Yatra’ by the Congress. They raised slogans against Hanumantha Rao and criticised him for participating in the protest without informing Premsagar Rao. They came to blows with their counterparts, resulting in mild tension.

However, policemen who were present at the spot pacified the warring groups. Hanumantha Rao and Vinod represented Joint Collector Madhusudhan Naik and urged him to take steps to purchase paddy produce from the farmers. They flayed the State government for failing to procure the grains. They alleged that it was showing negligence in buying paddy and was causing losses to the agrarian community.
In the meantime, activists and supporters of the Congress belonging to Premsagar Rao’s group also submitted a letter to Madhusudhan Naik, demanding both State and Central governments to procure paddy. They lamented that the farmers were forced to register losses in farming following disinterest of the government in buying paddy. They said that the governments should initiate the process of procurement and payments at the earliest.
