Mancherial: Officials, who are posted as commissioners of Mancherial Municipal Corporation are not showing interest to work with the civic body. Courtesy, an unprecedented pressure exerted by local public representatives.
Mancherial Municipality was recently upgraded as a corporation. It is one of the most sought-after working places for officials from the district and several parts of Telangana due to better road, rail connectivity and living conditions. The officials once were vying to get posted at the municipality, using recommendations of elected representatives to be transferred to the civic body.
However, the officials are of late reluctant to work in the corporation. They are reportedly disinterested to work with the civic body mainly owing to the pressure from public representatives and Congress leaders. They are allegedly subjected to harassment if they do not oblige to the orders of the representatives and leaders.
Incidentally, three commissioners of the corporation were transferred as they were not heeding to the pressure by the representatives. T Shivaji, who was posted as the commissioner in January took a fortnight-long leave citing personal problems recently. His predecessor Maruti Prasad was transferred after working for nearly a year. Sampath, commissioner of Luxettipet municipality has been posted as in-charge commissioner.
“The representatives and leaders are eying on the real estate sector to make a fast buck. They are interfering in the duties of corporation officials. They are asking the officials to issue house permissions and other services. The officials who would like to discharge duties sincerely and honestly are forced to leave the corporation,” an official regretted.
Similarly, leaders are levelling allegations against the officials if they do not accept their orders. A leader warned a commissioner that officials who follow his orders would be allowed to work in Naspur municipality in a general body meeting of the municipality. The commissioner was reportedly hurt, following the warning.
Meanwhile, officials of the registrations and stamps and police departments are facing a similar pressure and harassment from elected representatives and officials. They are unable to bear interference of the elected representatives and leaders of the ruling party in registrations of disputed assets at the office of sub-registrar, cases at police stations.
