Hyderabad: The Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) on Tuesday launched “Radio MANUU 90.0 FM”, a community radio station, focusing on local issues, youth-oriented programmes, skill development, and the promotion of language and culture, particularly Urdu.
Launching the radio, All India Radio Director General, Rajeev Kumar Jain, said the community radio is a useful medium of communication for educational institutions because of its cost-effectiveness, convenience, portability and flexibility of content formats.
Though the community radio has a reach of 16 km, its reach can be maximised through social media platforms, he said.
The Radio MANUU will be run by Instructional Media Centre (IMC) of MANUU. The teaser and radio jingle were also displayed on the occasion.
While appreciating the initiative of starting community radio, Jain said the first momentum will carry off radio stations for six months, when people will just tune in to the signature tune and probably after some time they will get hooked on to the content.
Highlighting the importance of the radio, MANUU Vice Chancellor, Prof Syed Ainul Hasan, said that through this platform, the university community could exchange ideas and capture larger audiences beyond the campus. MANUU Registrar Prof Ishtiaque Ahmed, IMC Director Rizwan Ahamd and others also spoke.
