Maoist couple from Chhattisgarh surrender to Kothagudem police

Kothagudem: A Maoist couple, ranked commander and deputy commander, surrendered before Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Dutt here on Friday. The surrendered naxals were Basaguda/Jegurukonda section commander, Vemula Nanga alias Three and his wife Podium Adami alias Manjula, both of Thimmapuram village in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, a statement from the SP’s office said.

Nanga joined the outlawed CPI (Maoist) party ranks in 2013, became dalam member and in 2016 was made Basaguda local organisation (LOS) squad deputy commander. He currently was supply team commander under the Maoist leader Eithu. Manjula joined the Maoist party in 2014 under the leadership of Mangu, Jegurukonda LOS commander. Later she worked in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh (MMC) zone in Balaghat under the Maoist leader Satish till 2017.


She was promoted as deputy commander and was working in a doctors supply team. In June 2021 Manjula and Nanga wanted to marry to live together. But the Maoist party refused their idea, harassed them and expelled them as they decided to quit the party. As they realised that there was no support from Maoist party, the couple decided to surrender to the police to join mainstream life. Dalam members and militia members could contact their relatives or police to surrender and live a better life, the statement said.
