Kothagudem: The CPI (Maoist) Cherla Local Guerilla Squad (LGS) member, Vetti Jogi alias Jyothi surrendered before Superintendent of Police Sunil (SP) Dutt and CRPF 141 Bn second-in-command Kamalvir Yadav. Hailing from Bathinapally village in Cherla mandal in the district, she was forced to join the Maoists in 2018 by the party leaders when she was 15 years old, the SP informed in a statement here on Tuesday.

Dutt said that the Maoists leaders were not allowing adivasi children to go to schools and threatening minor girls and boys to join Maoist ranks. Thus they were violating the rights of adivasi children. Jogi worked in Cherla LGS since she joined the naxals. As a minor she was forced to do all kinds of menial work such as cooking, carrying luggage and weapons for leaders. She was engaged in night patrolling and as guard to Maoist leaders Azad, Madhu, Aruna and Rajitha (wife of Maoist leader Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar).

During exchange of fire with police forces, Maoist leaders were using minors as cover to escape, SP said, adding that Jogi was being forced to marry a senior Maoist leader and two to three dalam members. She was unable to bear the mental and physical harassment caused by leaders and realised that there was no support to Maoists among the public. Hence decided to surrender to police to live a better life, Dutt noted.

He appealed to the organisations working for the protection of the rights of minors and women to raise their voice against the Maoist party for violating rights of women and minors. He also appealed to dalam members to contact their relatives or police to surrender to police.
