Marathon runner Pilli Raju hoists Telangana police flag high across the nation
Telangana police marathoner Pilli Raju has emerged as a symbol of pride and inspiration by successfully participating in major marathons across India, including the Tata Mumbai Marathon, Vedanta Half Marathon in Delhi, and Tata World Marathon in Kolkata.

Khammam: A prominent marathon runner from Telangana police, Pilli Raju, has become a source of pride for the state police department by participating in prestigious marathons across the country and achieving remarkable success.
He has showcased his exceptional talent by winning medals in national and international marathons held in Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and other cities over the past few decades. He took part in the 42.195 km Tata Mumbai Marathon held on January 18 and finished the race within the stipulated time.
Recently, around 70,000 participants from across the world took part in the Mumbai Marathon, which is recognised as the largest marathon in Asia. After returning to Khammam, Raju met with Commissioner of Police, Sunil Dutt on Wednesday. Representing Telangana Police in such a grand event and proudly hoisting the Telangana police flag is truly commendable, the CP said.
The Commissioner of Police wanted Raju to participate in more marathons in the future and bring recognition to Telangana not only at the district level but also at the State and national levels.
In addition to the Mumbai Marathon, Raju completed the Vedanta Half Marathon (21 km) held in Delhi on October 12, 2025 in 1 hour 54 minutes. He also completed the Tata World 25 km Marathon held in Kolkata in December, 2025 in 2 hours 13 minutes.
From the beginning of his career, Raju has received continuous encouragement and guidance from ACP Tirupati Reddy, Commissioner of Police and IGP (Sports) M Ramesh. In major marathons across the country, the name ‘Pilli Raju’ has become synonymous with Telangana police.
Being a seasoned marathoner he has emerged as a role model for the youth, highlighting the importance of fitness and discipline through his running journey and inspired many to take part in marathon events.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Raju said he experienced severe muscle cramps during the Mumbai Marathon and the support provided by fellow runner Anil Kumar Gowda was unforgettable. The encouragement from his nutrition team, sponsors and especially his wife Shubharani has been a great source of motivation, he added.
