Maripeda SI accused of sexually assaulting trainee woman cop while on duty

Warangal: In a shocking incident, a woman trainee Sub-Inspector of Police has lodged a complaint with Warangal Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr Tarun Joshi here on Tuesday alleging that Maripeda Sub-Inspector P Srinivas Reddy had harassed her sexually on Monday night during night patrolling under his police station limits in Mahabuabad district.
The woman SI of 2020 batch from Kataram mandal of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district was allotted to the Warangal Police Commissionerate about 20 days ago after successful completion of her training. Later, she was allotted to Maripeda PS of Mahabubabad district by Warangal CP.
Meanwhile, Maripeda SI P Srinivas Reddy (2014 batch) hailing from Yerrupalem mandal of Khammam district had directed her to come with him on a special assignment. However, the trainee SI had reportedly requested him to spare from the duty. But the ‘adamant’ SI had forced her to accompany him during the patrolling. Following this, both of them went for night duty in the official vehicle.
In her complaint with the CP, the complainant had alleged that Srinivas Reddy had tried to seduce her when they reached a secluded place and also attempted to molest her. “However, I managed to escape from him,” she reportedly mentioned.
When contacted, Mahabubabad SP Nadyala Koti Reddy said that the woman had approached the Warangal CP along with her parents. “I was busy today morning in connection with a smuggling case. She approached the CP directly,” he added.
Meanwhile, sources said that Srinivas Reddy, who earlier worked at Kesamudram PS, Garla PS, and Matwada PS in Warangal is said to be a close relative of the wife of an SP rank level officer. Reacting to the incident, CP Tarun Joshi issued a statement stating that they would take action against the SI as per the law if the allegations made against him by the woman SI proved right after the probe.
