Massive influx of devotees at Makkah, Madinah for Laylat al-Qadr

Scores of pilgrims from Hyderabad and other parts of India visit Saudi Arabia to offer prayers on the 27th night of Ramzan

Dubai: Scores of pilgrims from Hyderabad and other parts of India flocked to Saudi Arabia to attend prayers as part of Laylat al-Qadr (The Night of Power), one of the most important nights in Islam.

A huge number of worshippers thronged the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah to offer Isha and special night prayers of Taraweeh and Qiyamullail on the 27th night of Ramzan on Wednesday, which is widely believed to be Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Power, as stated in the Qur’an, better than a thousand months.


All the floors of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque and their courtyards were full of worshippers, who spilled over to the streets of central Haram areas.

“It was a sea of crowd amidst spiritual ambience on Laylat al-Qadr,” said Mahmood Balsharaf, an NRI from Hyderabad who offered prayers at ythe Grand Mosque in Makkah. The mosque received over 4.2 million worshippers on Wednesday night, according to Al-Ekhbariya, a local news channel.

At the Grand Mosque, worshippers offered the Isha and special night prayers of Taraweeh and Qiyamullail that ended with the special supplication, led by Sheikh Abdurahman Al-Sudais, head of the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the two mosques.

Security and health authorities made elaborate arrangements for worshippers.
