Hyderabad: A woman, who is an MBA graduate and the wife of a lecturer in Nellore, was arrested by the Rachakonda Cybercrime Police on Friday on charges of duping NRI men seeking suitable alliances on matrimonial sites. Police seized Rs.5.1 lakh, four mobile phones and other material from her.
Officials said she was involved in five matrimonial fraud cases in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police limits.
K.Swathi alias Archana alias Indira Priyadarshini (30), a homemaker from Pocharam in Ghatkesar and a native of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, was an MBA graduate and married to a lecturer in Nellore. She was arrested several times earlier in similar cases, but was released on bail later.
According to the Cybercrime officials, Swathi, who was jobless, started cheating people by posting fake profiles on popular matrimony sites with pictures downloaded from Google, seeking foreign alliances only.
“She posted virtual numbers on the fake matrimony profiles and when a prospective bridegroom or his parents interacted on the virtual mobile number, she gained their trust with sweet talk,” an official said, adding that she would also tell them that she was in India on a short visit from the United States. Eventually, using one pretext or the other, she would collect money from them and then stop responding.
Based on a recent complaint, the Cybercrime police booked a case and with the help of technological evidence, traced and arrested her. She was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
