Palakkad (Keralam): Body parts of a woman and a child were found stuffed in two sacks abandoned in the Bhavani River near Cherakadav in Agali here on Sunday, police said. According to police, cattle herders spotted the two sacks lying on a dried-up portion of the river around 3.30 pm. A strong stench emanating from the sacks aroused their suspicion, following which they alerted the Pudur police.
Police personnel reached the spot and examined the sacks. Body parts, including the head and other parts of a woman and a child, were found in the two sacks, officials said. Police conducted a search of the nearby area but found no other sacks or body parts, they said. The body parts were in an advanced stage of decomposition, making identification difficult, police said.
Based on a witness’s statement, the Pudur police registered a murder case and launched an investigation. The body parts were shifted to a mortuary and will undergo postmortem examination at Thrissur Medical College on Monday, police said.
Police are examining recent missing-person cases reported in neighbouring districts of Keralam and Tamil Nadu to establish the identities of the deceased. CCTV footage from the area is also being examined as part of the investigation, officials added.
