Warangal: Marking the conclusion of the Ganesh Navratri celebrations in the city, the immersion procession of Ganesh idols was taken out in a grand manner. Mayor Gundu Sudharani has formally launched the immersion procession on Sunday evening and immersed a small idol of Lord Ganesh at Chinna Waddepally tank in the 13th division of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC).
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that the GWMC made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the immersion of the Ganesh idols besides appointing a nodal officer for each tank where the immersion is done. “We have pressed 24 cranes to immerse the idols at 13 tanks besides arranging the rafts and expert swimmers to avoid the untoward incidents,” she said.
She added that all the roads that lead to the immersion point had been repaired for smooth moving of the vehicles as a part of the Shoba Yatra besides laying approach roads and setting up the lighting at the immersion points. “Sanitary workers were asked to keep the immersion points clean and remove the leftovers immediately for the smooth process of the immersion of the idols which would continue till Monday morning,” she added.
“ A total of 1,245 idols were set up in the Central Zone, which comes under the GWMC limits. We have made all security arrangements in collaboration with the GWMC and district administrations of the Hanamkonda and Warangal districts. CCTV cameras were also installed in the vicinity of the immersion places for the continuous monitoring by the police to avoid the untoward incidents,” said Warangal Police Commissioner Dr Tarun Joshi. Meanwhile, rain has lashed several parts of the Hanamkonda and Warangal districts Sunday evening even as the Ganesh idols procession was taken out with pomp and celebrations.
