Medak: In a bid to encourage farmers to take up alternative cultivation, Collector Prathima Singh visited a beekeeping farm at Bogada Bhupathipur on Thursday. While interacting with farmer Jaipal Reddy, she said that they had distributed around 104 beekeeping boxes to 10 farmers across the district to encourage them to take up alternative cultivation. He said that the farmers were getting three kg of honey every 15 days from one box. Since the farmers had sold the honey at Rs 600 per kg, she said that they were earning a respectable monthly income. Later, the Collector also visited the dragon fruit farm of the same farmer. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector called upon farmers to opt for alternative cultivation since meagre rainfall was expected during the year due to El Nino.
