Medak farmer commits suicide over unsold paddy
A 45-year-old farmer from Medak district, Telangana, committed suicide after failing to sell his harvested paddy despite waiting for 20 days at a procurement centre.
Medak: Farmer Gayanti Rajaiah, allegedly died by suicide after failing to sell his paddy crop.
Medak: A 45-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide at Agraharam village in Chinna Shankarampet mandal of Medak district on Wednesday after failing to sell his paddy crop.
Police said the deceased farmer, identified as Gayanti Rajaiah, had cultivated paddy on three acres of land and brought the produce to the procurement centre at neighbouring Ambajipet nearly 20 days ago. However, officials had not purchased the stock till Wednesday.
With mounting pressure from lenders to repay loans he had borrowed from various sources, Rajaiah allegedly ended his life by hanging.
A case has been registered and investigation is underway, police added.
