Medak surgeon gets Life Time Excellence in Public Healthcare award for 2026
Dr Pippiri Chandrashekhar, Medak’s first general surgeon, will receive the Lifetime Excellence in Public Healthcare 2026 award for over three decades of service. He has performed over 40,000 surgeries and contributed extensively to rural healthcare and charitable initiatives

Medak: Doctor Pippiri Chandrashekhar, a well-known and the first general surgeon in Medak, has been selected for the prestigious “Life time Excellence in Public Healthcare 2026” award. International-level organisation Insights Success has decided to honour the Medak doctor in recognition of his services in the public health sector for the last three decades. He will receive the award on Saturday during a function in Hyderabad. Chandrashekhar retired from government service in 2025.
Born and brought up in Medak town, Dr Chandrashekhar started his career as a surgeon at Area Hospital in Medak over 28 years ago. During all these years, Dr Chandrashekhar has performed over 40,000 surgeries. Until his posting in Medak in 1998, patients in Medak had to travel to either the government general hospital in Sangareddy or Hyderabad for surgeries. Since then, he has discharged duties in government hospitals located in remote areas of the district. During his 27 years of service, he worked in Medak district for 26 years. The surgeon was posted as district coordinator of hospital services of Rangareddy district at the fag end of his career.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Dr Chandrashekhar said that he got utmost satisfaction while working in rural parts of Medak. When there were no proper doctors available, he said that patients used to treat doctors like a god. “I still get goosebumps whenever I remember the experiences in rural parts of my service,” he said.
He has done a number of free surgeries and set up health camps and blood donation camps through Sathvi Charitable Trust, founded by him, and Lions Club in Medak. During busy days, Dr Chandrashekhar said he used to perform 600 surgeries in a month, including 200 major surgeries. Recalling his early years, he said he had performed 52 surgeries in a single day in Medak.
He has won the best doctor award twice at the state level and six times at the district level. Dr Chandrashekhar completed his MBBS from Ranganayaka Medical College in Kakinada in 1992 and PG from Guntur Medical College in 1998 after securing second rank in the state-level PG entrance test. Dr Chandrashekhar has been continuing his career in a private hospital after his retirement. Indian Medical Association, Medak, fellow doctors and family members congratulated the senior doctor on his achievement. He said that the award has increased the responsibility on his shoulders to carry forward social service through the trust he founded.
