Medak: Her birthday turned tragic for 14-year-old Manne Sanjana, who lost her mother, two siblings and her paternal uncle in an accident on Saturday.
Since Sanjana, who was staying at her maternal grandmother’s residence at Majidpally in Wargal mandal of Siddipet district, was turning 14 on Saturday, her mother Manne Lavanya, younger sisters Sahasra (10) and Shanvi (7) had planned to visit her. As Lavanya’s husband Kumar was busy with agriculture work, Lavanya requested his elder brother Manne Anjaneyulu (50) to drop her and her children at the main road so that they could catch a vehicle to reach Majidpally. Meanwhile, Sanjana and her maternal grandmother’s family were waiting for Lavanya’s arrival to cut a cake.
However, while the four of them were going towards the main road on a two-wheeler from their residence in Potharam in Manoharabad mandal, a tractor rammed the two-wheeler, killing all four on the spot.
The news left Sanjana in a deep shock. After losing her mother and two sisters, only Sanjana and her father Kumar now survive in the family. The final rites were performed on Sunday morning. The entire village and people from neighbouring villages arrived to mourn the death of the four victims.
Meanwhile, villagers said farmers in the village had spread the paddy on one side of the road to dry them, forcing vehicle users to use just one side of the road. Despite repeated accidents that occurred across erstwhile Medak due to the spreading of paddy on roads, the practice was continuing. The villagers demanded the police to strictly ban the spreading of paddy on roads to avoid such accidents in future.
