Hyderabad: Media has been barred from entering into Jala Soudha, the headquarters of the State Irrigation department, triggering strong objections from journalists.
Officials issued fresh directives allowing only individuals with valid identity cards inside the premises, effectively excluding journalists. Notices enforcing the rule have been displayed at entry points and near elevators, marking an unprecedented move.
The curbs come amid reports published by Telugu newspaper “Namasthe Telangana” on the increasing presence of Andhra Pradesh-origin officials in the department. Alongside media restrictions, engineers have reportedly been instructed not to interact with outsiders, with warnings of disciplinary action for violations.
The entire complex has been placed under heightened surveillance, with transfers and internal pressure imposed against officials who raised concerns over the status of irrigation projects in the State.
