Hyderabad: The State government has effectively handled the Covid-19 pandemic in Telangana, TRS MLA and former Health Minister C Laxma Reddy said on Monday.
Introducing a resolution on education and health sectors at the TRS plenary session, Laxma Reddy said Covid-19 had posed several challenges but the State government took necessary steps to protect the lives of the people during the pandemic. “There were only 1,400 beds when the State was carved out but the TRS government ensured that the bed strength goes up to 26,000,” he said, appreciating the key role played by the Health Department.
Plans have been drawn up to set up a medical college in each district of the State. The number of medical colleges in the State has now gone up to 17 including newly sanctioned colleges. With respect to education, he said the government had established 661 Gurukuls after Telangana State was formed.
With this, Telangana now has 981 Gurukuls including 53 degree colleges. The State government was providing nutritious food to the children with fine rice. In 2021-22 Budget, over Rs 4,000 crore was allocated for improving infrastructure facilities in the education sector, he added.
