Hyderabad: For the safety of children at the Child Care Institutions (CCIs) across the State during the pandemic, the Department of Women and Child Welfare (DW&CW) supplied medical kits to these institutions on Tuesday.

Each kit containing an oximeter, paracetamol and vitamin tablets, sanitizers, cloth masks, electric kettle and vaporizer was given to the caretakers of these institutions. Ranga Reddy district Additional Collector Pratheek Jain, who distributed kits to CCIs, said a constant vigil should be maintained on the health condition of the children and in case of any problem, the children should be rushed to the isolation centres.

District women and child welfare officer N Mothi said the kits were distributed to provide medicines to the children on time.

She said as many as 834 children hailing from poor families, orphans and semi orphans were residing in 31 CCIs in the district. Of them, over 60 children were tested positive and all of them recovered, she said, adding that nutritional diet was provided to the children keeping in view of the pandemic.

These CCIs are run by NGOs with the help of DW&CW. “We are continuously visiting CCIs to know the facilities being provided to the children,” she said. Mothi said essential commodities were supplied to the children in Maheswaram and Chevella after their parents were affected with the virus.

Officials from DW&CW said distribution of medical kits was launched across the State but special focus was laid on Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts as more CCIs were established in these three districts.
