Medical PG student dies by suicide with lethal injection in Karimnagar

Karimnagar: A 30-year-old medical postgraduate student, Empati Srinivas, died by suicide at his residence in Mankammathota here on Tuesday, reportedly due to mounting financial problems.
According to the police, Srinivas, who went to bed along with his family members on Monday night, was found unconscious the next morning. He is suspected to have injected himself with a lethal intravenous dose. Family members rushed him to the district headquarters hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police said Srinivas, a second-year postgraduate (Anaesthesia) student at Prathima Medical College, had fallen into deep debt after lending large sums of money to four of his friends, with the amounts ranging from Rs.15 lakh to Rs.1.4 crore. He is said to have arranged the money for his friends by taking bank loans in his own name. However, when he sought repayment, they allegedly refused, reportedly telling him that they would not return the money ‘even if he were dead’. Distressed by their response and under severe mental pressure, Srinivas is believed to have taken the extreme step.
He is survived by his wife and son. Police have registered a case and taken up investigation.
