Warangal Urban: Medical services at the 150-bed superspeciality hospital constructed at a cost of Rs 150 crore on the premises of Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) will commence on Friday, said Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Errabelli Dayakar Rao here on Thursday.
The Minister, who inspected the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMH) to learn about the treatment being given to COVID-19 patients, visited the superspeciality hospital built under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) and announced that medical services for non-COVID patients will begin from Friday. When the officials apprised the Minister that there was a need to fill 288 posts at the superspeciality hospital, he asked them to begin the recruitment process at the earliest.
Dayakar Rao said 1,250-bed MGM Hospital had been completely converted into a COVID-19 hospital to cater to the medical needs of COVID patients and advised the people not to go to private hospitals for treatment. “We are taking steps to ensure oxygen supply, Remdesivir injections, and special beds at the government hospitals. In addition to the existing oxygen beds, 250 more beds with oxygen facility will be made available at the MGM Hospital,” he added.
Earlier, addressing a review meeting via video conference with officials over the COVID-19 cases, the Minister appealed to the doctors and medical staff to work without availing leave. “In view of the sudden spurt in COVID cases, MGNREGA workers should be divided into small groups so that the virus cannot spread to all. The officials must impose fines on those who do not wear face masks,” he added.
Dayakar Rao also stressed the need for setting up ‘isolation centres’ to provide help to COVID patients. Tribal Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod also spoke at the meeting. District Collectors of erstwhile Warangal district and medical officials attended the meeting.
