Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday once more alleged that she has been “illegally detained” for the third time in less than a fortnight.

She wrote on Twitter that there were restrictions imposed on her while BJP ministers were allowed to campaign in the ongoing District Development Council (DDC) elections.

“Illegally detained today for the third time in less than a fortnight. Too much democracy indeed,” Mufti tweeted.

“If my movements are curbed due to ‘security concerns’ then why are Bharatiya Janata Party ministers allowed to campaign freely in Kashmir, while I’ve been asked to wait until culmination of DDC elections?” she said.

On Tuesday Mufti alleged that she was detained at her residence on the Gupkar road in Srinagar ahead of her visit to Central Kashmir’s Budgam district to meet with families evicted there.

The head of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mufti was released from preventive detention on October 13 after over 14 months following her arrest ahead of the bifurcation of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state into two union territories in August 2019. The UT administration revoked her detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA) after other leaders were also released in similar manner.
