Hyderabad: Muslims across the city are celebrating Milad-un-Nabi the birthday of Prophet Mohammed, on Friday. It falls on the 12 day of the Islamic month of Rabi-ul-Awal the third month of the Islamic calendar.

To mark the occasion, blood donation camps, food camps for the poor people and small programs were organised in different areas of the city. Young men distributed sweets, soft drinks bottles and biscuits to people passing along on the roads.

A few streets were decorated with flags and buntings, however due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was no match to the events seen in the previous years. Few organisations used social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube to telecast the religious programs to avoid gatherings.

A massive procession was taken out in the city by the Sunni United Forum of India (SUFI) from Quadri Chaman in Falaknuma. The main procession started from Charminar and passed through Gulzar Houz, Pathergatti, Madina Building, Salar Jung Museum, Mandi Mir Alam, Bibi Bazaar before culminating at Talabkatta junction. Several tributary processions joined the main procession at Charminar.

Meanwhile, several organisations and individuals visited the flood affected areas of the old city and handed over ration kits and food packets to the affected families staying there. Some persons also gifted clothes to the families.

The police on their part made elaborate bandobast by deploying personnel from different wings of the Hyderabad City Police and the Telangana State Special Police. To assist the local police, teams of Rapid Action Force too were deployed.
