Mild earthquake of magnitude 3.8 strikes Kothagudem, tremors felt across Telangana district
A mild 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck Kothagudem district in the early hours of Sunday, with tremors felt across several towns including Bhadrachalam and Manuguru. Officials confirmed the epicentre near Andhra Pradesh and reported no loss of life or property.

Tremors were felt around 2:26 am at Kothagudem, Paloncha, Mulkalapalli, Burgampad and Bhadrachalam, Manuguru and other parts in the district. According to official data from National Center for Seismology (NCS), the magnitude of the earthquake was 3.8 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located 111 kilometers northwest of Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh. Officials stated that the seismic activity occurred at a depth of about 10 kilometers underground. Although the magnitude was low, the tremors were felt clearly.
Since the residents were fast asleep at the time of the earthquake only a few have felt the tremors and were panicked at the unexpected event. People have stated that they were confused as beds, household items, and kitchen utensils began to shake abruptly.
However, officials announced that there was no loss of life or property due to the earthquake.
It might be recalled that an earthquake with a 5.3 magnitude on Richter scale occurred on December 4, 2024 with Mulugu as its epicentre at 7.27 am at a depth of 40 kilometres. The locals in Warangal, Kothagudem, Bhadrachalam, Khammam and other areas felt tremors.
Similarly an earthquake of magnitude 3.6 on Richter occurred at Manuguru in the district during early hours on August 25, 2023.
