Jagtial: Mild tension prevailed in Metpalli on Thursday when BJP and TRS workers clashed with each other over Korutla MLA K Vidhyasagar Rao’s alleged comments on donations to Ram temple in Ayodhya .

Participating in a sheep distribution programme held in Jagtial, Vidhyasagar Rao is reported to have asked the people not to donate money for the construction of Ram temple.

Enraged by his comments, BJP workers burnt the effigy of the MLA at Metpalli old bus stand. Trouble erupted when TRS activists rushed to the spot to prevent the BJP workers from burning the effigy.

On coming to know about the incident, police rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control by barricading the area. The two groups, however, continued to attack each other. A few persons from both the groups and a constable suffered minor injuries before the police brought the situation under control.

Superintendent of Police Sindhu Sharma visited the spot and is camping in Metpalli to monitor the situation.
