Hyderabad: The valedictory of the 40th Mines Safety Week 2025 was held here on Saturday under the theme “Safety is My Responsibility.” The event was organised by the Mines Safety and Productivity Association to promote a strong safety culture and the prevention of accidents in mines.

The DG of Directorate General of Mines Safety Ujjwal Tah was the Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour were Deputy Director-General of Mines Safety (South Central Zone) T.R. Kannan, and Chief Operating Officer, UltraTech Cement Limited Anil Bajaj.

Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries highlighted that the Mines Safety Week, being observed since the 1960s, played a significant role in creating awareness among mine workers about workplace safety, with the ultimate goal of achieving zero accidents. They also stressed the importance of implementing stringent safety standards to prevent occupational diseases such as silicosis and hearing impairment.

Awards and certificates of appreciation were presented to mines, officials and workers who demonstrated outstanding performance in areas such as dust control, illumination, haul road maintenance, and other critical safety parameters.

The organisers stated that around 68 limestone and metal mines from the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh participated in the safety competitions and awareness programmes. The primary objective of the initiative was to enhance safety standards in mines, prevent workplace accidents, and strengthen safety awareness among workers.
