Nagarkurnool: As in the first phase of the gram panchayat elections, Congress Ministers and MLAs faced open resistance from villagers during the second phase of campaigning on Friday, highlighting continued discontent with the ruling party’s leadership.
Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao encountered stiff opposition during his visit to Gopalpuram village. Shortly after arriving, the Minister made indirect remarks aimed at those who had defected from other parties to join the Congress. Villagers, angered by the comments, reminded him that he too had defected from the BRS to the Congress for personal gains. They also questioned his contribution to the village’s development and demanded accountability.
As the protests grew louder, police sensed trouble and deployed additional personnel to control the situation. The Minister eventually had to leave the village as villagers raised slogans against him.
A similar scene unfolded in Kamareddy district, where Jukkal MLA Thota Laxmikantha Rao was stopped by residents of Begumpur thanda. Villagers blocked his entry and confronted him about promises the Congress had failed to fulfil. Despite his attempts to pacify them, the villagers continued to raise objections, forcing the MLA to leave.
Videos of the confrontation are circulating on social media, underscoring growing public dissatisfaction with Congress leaders during the ongoing election campaign.
